Real Academia de Ingeniería Recognizes Professors Sergi Abadal and David Garcia

The Real Academia de Ingeniería has awarded two Young Researchers Prizes to Sergi Abadal (Agustín de Betancourt y Molina Medal) and David García (Juan López de Peñalver Medal). The awards were presented on February 4 in Madrid.

Out of nine awards granted this year by the Young Researchers Prizes of the Real Academia de Ingeniería, two were awarded to professors from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC).

  • Sergi Abadal Cavallé received the Agustín de Betancourt y Molina Medal.

    • Professor in the Department of Computer Architecture at UPC.
    • Affiliated with the Barcelona School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSETB) and the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB).
    • Member of the Broadband Communications and Architectures (CBA) Research Group and the Intelligent Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research Group (IDEAI-UPC).
    • His research focuses on graphene antennas, nanocommunications, and integrated networks.
    • Recognized by the European Research Council (ERC) with Starting Grant and Proof of Concept funding.
  • David García Soriano received the Juan López de Peñalver Medal.

    • Serra Húnter Professor in the Department of Computer Science at UPC.
    • Researcher in the Algorithms, Bioinformatics, Complexity, and Formal Methods (ALBCOM) Research Group.
    • Specializes in efficient algorithm design for large-scale data analysis, with a focus on large-scale optimization, algorithmic fairness, and data mining.

The Young Researchers Prizes recognize outstanding contributions from engineers under 40 years old who have made original and significant advances in their fields. The awards ceremony was held on February 4 at the academy’s headquarters in Madrid.
