The new website is a space to connect and celebrate scientific talent
The Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI), under the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIU), has launched a commemorative website to mark the 25th anniversary of the Ramón y Cajal Programme — one of the most prestigious initiatives in the Spanish research system.
This new portal is designed to serve as a meeting point for the nearly 8,000 researchers who have taken part in the programme since its creation in 2000. In addition to detailed information about the official anniversary event taking place on October 14, the site features updated data, statistics, and testimonials highlighting the programme’s impact over the years.
One of the highlights of the site is the option for former and current participants to request a commemorative badge, as a token of appreciation for their contributions to the advancement of scientific knowledge and innovation in Spain.
The Ramón y Cajal Programme aims to attract postdoctoral research talent and facilitate their integration into the Spanish research system, with special emphasis on researchers who have been working abroad. Over the years, the programme has received co-funding from several European sources, including the European Social Fund (ESF), ESF+, and the European Commission’s Recovery and Resilience Facility.
Since its launch, over €1.746 billion has been invested in the initiative. Between 2018 and 2023, the annual investment increased significantly, resulting in a 150% growth in the number of contracts awarded.
José Manuel Fernández de Labastida, Director of the AEI, underscored the significance of the programme:
“The Ramón y Cajal Programme is currently one of the State Research Agency’s most prestigious initiatives and plays a key role in enhancing the international standing of Spanish science.”
At the UPC Talent Acquisition Unit, we celebrate this initiative, which shines a light on the achievements of research professionals and helps raise awareness of programmes that drive scientific excellence.
