Objective

The Google PhD Fellowship is a unique funding opportunity designed to support exceptional doctoral students conducting innovative and high-impact research in computer science and related fields.

This program supports highly promising researchers from all backgrounds who aim to help shape the future of technology. Google is committed to diverse and inclusive research and particularly encourages candidates with varied backgrounds and perspectives to apply.

The fellowship provides funding that is transferred to the university with the goal of supporting the selected candidate’s PhD and enabling them to focus fully on their research.

This fellowship is compatible with other predoctoral scholarships.

General requirements

UPC may nominate a maximum of 3 candidates.
Candidates must be PhD students at any stage in computer science or related fields.*

All eligibility requirements must be met:

  • Full-time PhD student.
  • Not employed by Google and not having any immediate family member employed by Google (spouse, parent, children, etc.).
  • Not holding comparable industrial fellowships.
  • Must not have previously received this fellowship.

Duration of the grant

Awards are granted for up to 2 years.

What the grant includes

Annual stipend/salary support, health insurance, social benefits, tuition and fees, conference travel, and personal computing equipment. The amount varies by country.
Google research mentor.

Application process

Phase 1 – Submission of applications

Interested candidates must send their applications by email to captaciotalent.sp@upc.edu before 20/04/2026.

UPC may select a maximum of 3 candidates.

Important: The candidate must complete this declaration (download document), sign in the indicated place, and request the signature of the coordinator of their doctoral program. With this document signed by both parties and the full application prepared (see details below), they may then contact the director of their department to sign the application (If you do not know who the coordinator of the doctoral program is, you can find it at https://doctorat.upc.edu/ca/programes/)

Applicants must submit a single PDF document in English, in the required order and following the instructions provided in the call, for evaluation and submission to Google.

Required documents:

  1. Cover sheet signed by the head of the PhD department confirming that the student meets ALL eligibility requirements:
    • The student is a full-time PhD candidate at the institution submitting the nomination.
    • The student is not currently supported by a comparable industrial fellowship (government or non-profit funding is exempt)
    • The student is not employed by Google and has no household member employed by Google (spouse, parent, children)
  2. CV of the student, including links to personal website and publications.
  3. Short CV of the main supervisor (1 page)
  4. 2–3 recommendation letters from people familiar with the candidate’s work (at least one from the PhD supervisor)
  5. Research proposal / PhD thesis proposal (maximum 3 pages, excluding references)
  6. Current and previous academic transcripts (preferably official; unofficial versions are also accepted)

Phase 2 – Evaluation and submission to Google

UPC validates or rejects each candidate’s proposal.
Selected applications are then submitted to Google.

Objectiu

La Beca Google PhD és una oportunitat única de finançament pensada per impulsar estudiants de doctorat excepcionals que desenvolupen recerca innovadora i d’alt impacte en informàtica i àrees afins.

Aquest programa dona suport a investigadors amb gran potencial, provinents de qualsevol origen, que volen contribuir a definir el futur de la tecnologia. Google aposta per una recerca diversa i inclusiva, i anima especialment a presentar-se a candidats amb trajectòries i perspectives variades.

La beca proporciona una dotació econòmica que es transfereix a la universitat, amb l’objectiu de finançar el doctorat del candidat seleccionat i permetre-li centrar-se plenament en la seva recerca.

Aquesta beca és compatible amb altres beques predoctorals.

Requisits generals

  • La UPC només pot presentar un màxim de 3 candidats.
  • Han de ser estudiants de qualsevol etapa de doctorat en ciències de la computació i àrees relacionades*
  • S'han de complir tots els requisits d'elegibilitat:
    • Estudiant de doctorat a temps complet.
    • Estudiant no empleat de Google i que no té cap membre de la seva família empleat de Google (cònjuge, pare, fills,etc)
    • No té el suport d'un premi similar procedent d'empreses (si s'admeten beques d'organismes públics)
    • No haver estat becat anteriorment per aquest programa.

Àrees de Recerca d’Interès*

Durada de l'ajut

  • Els ajuts concedits tenen una durada de fins 2 anys. 

Què inclou l'ajut

  • Assignació anual per a estipendis / sou, assistència sanitària, beneficis socials, matrícula i quotes, viatges per conferències i equips informàtics personals. L’import de la beca varia segons el país.
  • Mentor de recerca Google.

Fases de la convocatòria

Fase 1.- Recepció de sol·licituds

Les persones interessades han de fer-nos arribar per correu electrònic a captaciotalent.sp@upc.edu  les seves sol·licituds abans del dia 20/04/2026.

La UPC només podrà seleccionar un màxim de 3 candidats.

Important: El/la candidat/a ha d’emplenar aquesta declaració (descarrega doc) , signar en el lloc indicat, i demanar la signatura del/de la coordinador/a del seu programa de doctorat. Amb aquest document signat per les dues persones, i tota la sol·licitud preparada (veure detalls més avall), podrà adreçar-se al /a la director/a del seu Departament per a que signi la sol·licitud (Si no sabeu qui és el/la coordinador/a del programa de doctorat ho podeu trobar a https://doctorat.upc.edu/ca/programes/)

Caldrà presentar un únic document en PDF en anglès en aquest ordre, seguint les instruccions que dona la convocatòria, per valorar-les i enviar-les a Google.

Documents requerits:

  1. Full de portada (Cover sheet) signat pel cap de departament del seu doctorat, en el que confirmi que l’estudiant compleix TOTS els requisits d’elegibilitat :
    1. L’estudiant és un estudiant de postgrau a temps complet que cursa un doctorat (PhD) a la institució que presenta la candidatura.
    2. L’estudiant no rep ja el suport d’una beca industrial comparable (el finançament governamental o d’organitzacions sense ànim de lucre n’està exempt)
    3. L’estudiant no és empleat de Google ni té cap membre de la seva llar que sigui empleat de Google (cònjuge, pare/mare, fills).

    2. CV de l’estudiant amb enllaços al lloc web personal i a les publicacions.

    3. CV breu del director/a principal de l’estudiant (1 pàgina)

    4. 2 ó 3 cartes de recomanació de persones familiaritzades amb el treball del candidat (almenys una del director/a de tesi)

    5. Proposta de recerca / tesi doctoral (màxim 3 pàgines, excloent les referències)

    6. Expedients acadèmics actuals i anteriors (preferiblement oficials; s’accepten també els no oficials)

Fase 2.-  Valoració i enviament a Google

  • La UPC valida o rebutja la proposta de cada candidat.
  • Envia les sol·licituds escollides a Google.
