FPU UPC 2026

Objective

A total of 99 FPU-UPC grants are announced to promote the training of researchers through the awarding of grants for the recruitment of predoctoral research staff for the year 2026, enabling full-time dedication to studies leading to the award of the PhD degree.

As a new feature of this call, two rounds will be held: one at the end of the second semester of the 2025–26 academic year and another at the beginning of the 2026–27 academic year.

General requirements

To be admitted to the selection process, applicants must meet the following requirements at the time of acceptance of the grant:

• Be admitted to a doctoral programme with a commitment to enrol in thesis supervision in the 2026–27 academic year, or hold conditional admission to a doctoral programme. For the first round, applicants must undertake to formalise enrolment when the registration period opens (approximately September/October 2026). Failure to do so will result in revocation of the grant.

Applicants may also participate if they are already enrolled in academic supervision of a doctoral programme in the previous academic year at the time of grant acceptance. Doctoral programmes must belong to the UPC.

• Not have benefited from any other grant of a similar nature (predoctoral contract) with a duration exceeding 12 months at the end of the application period.
• Not hold a PhD degree.
• Not have benefited, in whole or in part, from this grant in previous calls.
• Have the endorsement of a UPC faculty member acting as thesis supervisor, with accredited research experience and a permanent link to the UPC or an employment contract exceeding the four-year duration of the grant. In the case of co-supervision, at least one supervisor must meet this requirement. A thesis supervisor may not supervise or co-supervise more than one FPU, nor supervise a beneficiary from previous FPU-UPC calls while the grant remains in force, except in duly justified cases assessed by the Vice-Rector for Faculty Policy.
• Hold accreditation of sufficient knowledge of Catalan at C1 CEFR level. Applicants who do not hold this accreditation must request a temporary exemption in accordance with Agreement CG/2023/03/09 of the UPC Governing Council.

Grant duration

• The predoctoral contract shall have a minimum duration of one year and may be renewed annually under this programme up to a maximum of four years.

Characteristics

• A total of 99 FPU-UPC 2026 grants are announced and will be distributed among departments, institutes and UNESCO Chairs, in accordance with the document available in the “Documentation and support” section.
• Research staff in training should collaborate in teaching activities for up to a maximum of 180 hours over the duration of the predoctoral contract, without exceeding 60 hours per year. Agreement CG/2024/05/12 of 25 October 2024 regulates remuneration for teaching activities carried out under predoctoral training contracts.

Amount of the grant

• €20,063.96 gross per year in the first and second year, and €25,079.88 gross per year in the third and fourth year.

• In addition, all beneficiaries of the FPU-UPC 2025 programme are entitled to free enrolment in doctoral programme supervision, with a maximum of four free enrolments for the entire grant period. Fees for academic record management are not eligible.

Submission of applications

Through the UPC electronic headquarters (link), by completing the application form “Call for university faculty training grants (FPU-UPC 2026) for the completion of a doctoral thesis at the UPC”.

• Applicants may submit only one application.
• Each thesis supervisor may appear in only one application and must sign an endorsement document, which the applicant must attach to the application form.
• The application must indicate the department, institute or UNESCO Chair under which the application is submitted, chosen from among the 41 available options.

To benefit from the grant, successful applicants must hold the qualifications granting access to doctoral studies at the time of formalisation of the contract.

Documents mandatory to be submitted with the application form, always in PDF format:

• Curriculum Vitae of the applicant, and Curriculum vitae of the thesis supervisor, if aplicable.
• Copy of the doctoral programme admission letter or, where applicable, provisional admission letter.
• Endorsement document from the applicant’s doctoral thesis supervisor (use the attached template here). Each supervisor may endorse only one application.
• Copy of academic transcripts for degrees not completed at the UPC, where applicable. Including the date of degree completion and the grade point average. In the case of studies completed outside the Spanish university system, if the academic transcript does not include a description of the university’s grading system, documentation certifying this system must be attached, indicating the maximum and minimum grades, and the minimum passing grade.
• Copy of the equivalence certificate of the average grade for degrees obtained at foreign institutions, issued through the Ministry portal, where applicable.
• Important: In order for the departments/institutes/UNESCO chairs to evaluate the applications they receive, according to their prioritization criteria related to Annex B.2), which you will find in the “Prioritization Criteria for Applications” section below. Applicants must complete the annexed document/work plan  and upload it to the corresponding section in the online application portal (PDF format).
• Copy of the certificate accrediting sufficient knowledge of Catalan at C1 CEFR level. Applicants without this certificate may request a temporary exemption via the standardised application form.

Additional document to be submitted:

• For the calculation of the weighted average grade, applicants must submit an official document indicating the average grade of graduates from their cohort. This document is not required for degrees awarded by the UPC and must be attached under “other annexes”. In the absence of this document, only the candidate's average mark will be taken into account.

In all scientific output, and particularly in publications derived therefrom, the beneficiary’s affiliation with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya must be stated, in accordance with point 2 of the regulations governing the structure of UPC research units (CG 6/11 2006) and the institutional affiliation guidelines established by the UPC. Objectiu

Es convoquen 99 ajuts FPU-UPC per fomentar la formació d’investigadors i investigadores mitjançant l’atorgament d’uns ajuts per contractar personal investigador predoctoral per a l’any 2026 que permetin la seva dedicació a temps complet als estudis conduents a l’obtenció del títol de Doctor o Doctora.

Com a novetat per a aquesta convocatòria es faran 2 crides o edicions, una acabat el 2n quadrimestre del curs 2025-26 i una altra a l’inici del curs 2026-2027.

Requisits generals

Per poder ser admès al procés selectiu, els/les aspirants han de complir, en el moment d’acceptació de l’ajut, els requisits següents:

• Estar admès en el programa de doctorat amb el compromís de matricular-se de tutoria de tesi el curs 2026-2027, o amb una admissió condicional al programa de doctorat. Per a la 1ª edició es demanarà el compromís que quan s’obri el període de matrícula la formalitzin (aprox. setembre/octubre 2026). En cas contrari l’ajut quedarà revocat.

També poden participar si ja està matriculat o matriculada en el curs anterior, de la tutela acadèmica del programa doctorat en el moment de l’acceptació de l’ajut. Els programes de doctorat han de ser de la UPC.

• No haver gaudit de cap altre ajut de naturalesa anàloga (contracte predoctoral) d’una durada superior a 12 mesos quan finalitzi el termini de presentació de sol·licituds.
• No disposar d’un títol de Doctor o Doctora.
• No haver gaudit totalment o parcial d’aquest ajut en convocatòries anteriors.
• Disposar de l’aval d’un director de tesi PDI de la UPC amb experiència de recerca acreditada i que tingui una vinculació permanent a la UPC o un contracte laboral que excedeixi els quatre anys de l’ajut. En cas de codirecció de la tesi caldrà que almenys un/una director/directora compleixi aquest requisit. Un/a director/a de tesi no podrà dirigir o codirigir a més d’un FPU, i tampoc si ja estava dirigint un/a beneficiari/a FPU-UPC d’edicions anteriors, mentre aquest tingui vigent l’ajut, exceptuant casos degudament motivats que seran valorats pel Vicerector de Política de PDI.
• Disposar de l'acreditació de coneixement suficient de català C1 MECR. En cas de no disposar-ne s'ha de sol·licitar l'exempció temporal de l'acreditació en els termes previstos a l'Acord CG/2023/03/09, de 13 d'abril del Consell de Govern.

Durada ajut

• La durada del contracte predoctoral ha de ser per un mínim d’un any, i es pot prorrogar anualment en el marc d’aquest programa fins a un màxim de quatre anys.

Característiques

• Es convoquen 99 ajuts FPU-UPC 2026, que es distribuiran entre Departaments, Instituts i Càtedres Unesco, segons el document que es troba a l'apartat "Documentació i suport".
• El personal investigador en formació haurà de col·laborar en tasques de docència fins un màxim de 180 h durant l’extensió del contracte predoctoral, sense superar en cap cas les 60 hores anuals. L’Acord CG/2024/05/12, de 25 d’octubre de 2024 regula la retribució de les tasques docents realitzades en el marc dels ajuts de contractes de formació predoctoral.

Quantia de l'ajut

• 20.063,96 € bruts anuals el primer i segon any i 25.079,88 € bruts anuals el tercer i quart any.

• Addicionalment, totes les persones beneficiàries del programa FPU-UPC 2025 tenen dret a la matrícula gratuïta de la tutoria del programa de doctorat, amb un màxim de 4 matrícules gratuïtes en total per a tot el període de l’ajut. No són susceptibles d’ajut els preus per a la gestió de l’expedient acadèmic.

Presentació sol·licituds

A través de la seu electrònica de la UPC (enllaç), complimentant la instància "Convocatòria d'ajuts de formació de professorat universitari (FPU-UPC 2026) per a la realització de la tesi doctoral a la UPC".

• • Les persones candidates només podran presentar una única sol·licitud.

• • Cada director/directora de tesi només podrà constar com a tal en una sola sol·licitud i haurà de signar un document d'aval que el candidat/a adjuntarà al seu formulari de sol·licitud.
  • A la sol·licitud s'haurà de fer constar l'opció del departament, institut o càtedra UNESCO pel qual es vol fer la sol·licitud, d'entre els 41 possibles.

Per poder gaudir de l’ajut, si s’és beneficiari/a, la persona candidata ha d’estar en possessió dels títols que li permeten accedir al programa de doctorat en el moment de formalitzar el contracte.

Documents de lliurament obligatori al formulari de sol·licitud, sempre en versió PDF:

• Currículum Vitae.
• Còpia de la carta d’admissió al programa de doctorat o, en el seu defecte, carta d'admissió provisional al programa de doctorat.
• Document d'aval del/de la professor/a director/a de tesi doctoral de la persona sol·licitant (utilitzeu el model annexat aquí). Cada professor/a només pot avalar una sol·licitud.
  
• Còpia Certificats Acadèmics de les titulacions no cursades a la UPC, si s'escau. On consti la data d’obtenció del títol i la nota mitjana. En el cas dels estudis cursats fora del sistema universitari de l’Estat espanyol, si l’expedient acadèmic no inclou la descripció del sistema d’avaluació de la universitat, s’haurà d’adjuntar la documentació que acrediti aquest sistema, indicant la qualificació màxima i mínima, i la nota mínima per aprovar.  
• Còpia dels documents d'Equivalència de nota mitjana dels estudis universitaris realitzats en centres estrangers, expedits a través del portal del Ministeri, si és el cas. Per a la correcta elaboració d'aquesta equivalència hem publicat una guia per a l'elecció de l’escala de conversió de notes, a l'apartat de "Documentació i suport".
• Important: Per tal  que els departaments/instituts/càtedres puguin valorar les sol·licituds que els arribin, segons els seus els criteris de priorització relacionats a l'Annex B.2) i que trobareu a l'apartat de sota a "Criteris de prioritzacó de les sol·licituds", les persones sol·licitants hauran d'omplir el document annex/pla de treball i adjuntar-lo a l'apartat corresponent en la sol·licitud de la seu electrònica (en versió pdf).
• Còpia del certificat de nivell de suficiència de català C1 MECR. En cas de no disposar-ne, es pot sol·licitar al formulari normalitzat de la sol·licitud una exempció temporal.

Document addicional a aportar:

• Per al càlcul de la nota mitjana ponderada les persones sol·licitants hauran de presentar un document oficial on consti la nota mitjana dels titulats de la seva promoció. Per als títols expedits per la UPC no serà necessari presentar aquest document. Caldrà annexar aquest document a l'apartat "altres annexes". Cas de no disposar d'aquest document, només es tindrà en compte la nota mitjana de la persona candidata.
