Overview

The FPI-UPC 2026 call aims to attract and recruit predoctoral researchers (R1 level) to join research groups at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) through competitive doctoral contracts. Selected candidates will receive a four-year predoctoral contract, including annual salary progression, tuition fee coverage, and teaching experience opportunities.

Are you eligible?

Before applying, make sure you meet all of the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be admitted or enrolled in a UPC PhD programme (or have a formal commitment to be hired).
  • Not already hold a doctoral degree.
  • Not have previously received an equivalent predoctoral contract for more than 12 months.
  • Have a minimum undergraduate (or equivalent) GPA of 6.5/10.
  • Obtain an endorsement from your thesis supervisor.

What the grant offers

Maximum of 180 teaching hours over the 4-year contract *

Funding & Remuneration

Years 1–2: €20,364.88 gross/year;

Years 3–4: €25,456.20 gross/year.

* Agreement CG/2024/05/12 of 25 October 2024 regulates remuneration for teaching activities carried out under predoctoral training contracts. Remuneration for Teching: màximum €11.978,40

If you completed your studies at a foreign institution, you must request and attach the official “Declaration of Grade Equivalence” issued by the Spanish Ministry responsible for universities. Official equivalence tool. Your original transcript must include the grading system (maximum and minimum passing grade). If not included, you must provide supporting documentation. The converted GPA must be 6.50 or higher.

If the official document is not submitted, a default grade of 5.0 will be applied. UPC graduates are exempt, as their data is retrieved internally.

Yes. A conditional admission to a UPC doctoral programme is mandatory. It must be requested from the academic committee and submitted within the deadline. Final admission must be completed before signing the contract.

No. Each UPC professor may only endorse one application. Exceptions apply only to co-supervision, where the secondary supervisor may come from another group.

Yes, provided you have not exceeded 12 months of prior predoctoral funding at the time of application.

The supervisor must be UPC teaching and research staff (PDI), have accredited research experience, and hold a contract longer than the duration of the grant . Therefore, associate, emeritus or seconded academic staff will not be able to sign the endorsement. Furthermore, they must also meet the doctoral school criteria, including at least one recognized research period (“sexenni”).

Corrections must be submitted online via the UPC Electronic Office between 16 and 29 September 2026 (until 14:00 CET). You must access your application and submit the “Correction” form with the required documents in PDF format.

No. Only objections regarding already submitted documentation are allowed. No new documents can be added.

No. FPI-UPC grants are not linked to specific projects and can be requested by any candidate who meets the eligibility requirements.
